Bjorn Mac with Fries...

I finally got around to watching The HBO Sports documentary McEnroe/Borg: Fire & Ice. Another great look into a classic rivalry just like Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals. McEnroe needed Borg to compete at the highest level just like Bird needed Magic which lends to the age old question......What are sports without rivalries????

Still Rock Ellesse...

The pictures don't do this shirt justice because the color is actually like a neon orange. The US Open is one of my favorite tournaments all year, mainly because the great fights in the stands.....who knew tennis fans were so violent?!?!? I totally forgot we had these until today when I was rummaging through some boxes in the back room. I picked theses up at a Flea Market a couple years back along with some neon Vuarnet & Avia......gotta love the 90's!!! If this shirt had a motto it would be: Its not whether you win or lose, its how you look playing the game!!!

Mac Attack...

Another great find from today is this vintage Nike McEnroe checkerboard tag jacket. I gotta be honest my girl found this too, she killed it today!!!!!!! When she showed it to me I said "YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS", she looked at me like I was crazy and almost put it back but then I told her the store behind the comment! We just sold a vintage red Nike Mcenroe suit the other day so it was nice to get a new Mac piece that quickly. I have never seen this jacket before in my life and if it was an XL I wouldve probably kept it but its a sz Small (can fit a Medium for sure). It has a couple spots on the front so I'm gonna get it cleaned then it will be ready to go!

Speaking of Agassi, here we have a vintage Nike poster featuring the now infamous "weave"......who wouldve thought that amazing mullet was a hair piece! The poster is dated 1992 which some might say was his best year as a pro tennis player. Agassi's Grand Slam tournament breakthrough came that year at Wimbledon in which he defeated Goran Ivanišević in a five set final. Along the way, Agassi overcame two former Wimbledon champions in Boris Becker and John McEnroe. Agassi was named the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year in 1992. Agassi once again played on the United States' Davis Cup winning team in 1992. Source

Thriftin Aint Easy...

I went back home this past weekend and you know I had to get my thrift on. I got a bunch of snapbacks, some boxes of basketball cards, a bunch of dope vintage tees but the best thing I found was this vintage Nike Mcenroe jacket above. If you follow me on twitter than you've probably seen my "Live from the Thrift Store" tweets and this was one of them. I found this Mac jacket buried in the back of the ack and almost didnt even bother digging through it but Im glad I did! I have the black version in my personal collection and its one of my favorite vintage pieces jackets! Its just so simple and clean but the checkerboard patch lets people now that you can freak out on a referee at any given moment.......YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS!! If this was my size I would probably keep it for myself but its a Small (fits like a Medium) so for sale it goes.

Fuzz...

I've seen tennis ball hats (Alife), tennis ball sneakers (Reebok & Nike) but never a tennis ball car.......until now!! Taking center stage at the 2009 US Open in New York City is a one-of-the-kind Lexus IS350. Equipped with all the same features as a regular IS350 this particular one is splashed with a neon yellow paint job, or at least thats what it looks like from afar. If you look a little closer you can see that its actually covered in a coat of the same thick felt used for tennis balls!!! Source

I've always loved the Nike RF logo, so clean and simple similar to the way he plays the game (or at least he makes it look simple). Federer accomplished what many thought to be impossible, though just narrowly at Men’s Final of Wimbledon earlier this month. Said to be the longest Set in Wimbledon’s history since 1877, with icons such as Rod Laver, Manuel Santana, Bjorn Borg, Ilie Nastase, and the record holder Pete Sampras looking on, Roger Federer edged out Andy Roddick 16-14 to take home the Wimbledon Title, his record breaking 15th Grand Slam Title. Speaking of wrong size and vintage Nike Mcenroe gear, here is a vintage tee I have in stock that doesnt fit me. You dont know how many times I find stuff that I want to keep for myself but its not my size so I have to sell it. Just like the kids Mac Attacks I have I'm just waiting for the day this tee turns into a sz XL but I dont see that happening anytime in the near future. I love the old McEnroe logo and how they incorporated the tennis ball and checkboard print into it......well done!

Mac Attack...

I wanted to buy these so bad but wasn't gonna spend a stack on them. Above is a pair of OG Nike Mac Attack's from 1986 that just sold on eBay for $995.00 !!!!! The buyer had a best offer option and I sent 3 offers but he declined them all :-( I personally dont think these are worth $1,000 but thats the beauty of eBay.....someone out there thought they were worth that much and bought them, simple as that. I have a Deadstock w/box pair in stock but they are a kids size so I can only hope they transform overnight into a size 10.5 or 11 and I can wear them :-) FYI In 1978 John McEnroe signed an endorsement with Nike. Many of his antics, including kiss the ground were thought to be a way of highlighting his sponsor's gear. All of which was swallowed by an eager set of consumers.

Weekend O' Sports...

I gotta say this is one of the best all around sports weekends in a long time. Im a HUGE sports fan and enjoy evertyhing from Football to UFC to Tennis and this weekend is jam packed with a ton of great events!! 1st up tonight is the UFC fight (10 pm est on Pay Per View) where the title is on the line in the St-Pierre vs Penn fight. I'm a GSP fan so I hope he uses his Canadian . Im also looking forward to Nate Diaz vs Clay Guida (who looks like Nadal's twin brother, haha) and the Stephan Bonnar vs Jon Jones fight. Tommorow is just the ultimate game day for a sports fan like myself!!! At Noon the Celtics take on the Timberwolves as they face off against all the players they traded to get KG. The Celts have won 10 in a row and will be looking to get #11 tomorrow. BTW Ray Allen should've made the all star team!!!! Next up at 3:30 is the finals of the Autrailian open featuring #1 Nadal vs #2 Federer and what more could a tennis fan ask for!!! I gotta say I think Nadal is taking over the game and Federer is still one of the all time greatest but I think his reign is up and Rafa is the new King....but well see if Im right tomorrow :-) Last but not leats is the Super Bowl where the Cardinals are looking for their 1st championship EVER while the Steelers arent happy with the fist of rings and are looking for their 6th championship!!! I honestly think its gonna be a great game and I think the 2 long haired warriors (Polamalu & Fitzgerald) will make the difference in the game!! The only thing that would've been icing on the cake is if the Patriots were in the Super Bowl but there's always next year!!

US Open...

The 2008 US Open just kicked off and Im looking forward to watching some good tennis. Rafael Nadal is seeded No. 1 making it the first time since January 2004 that a man other than Roger Federer holds that top spot at a Grand Slam tournament. Right now Im watching Blake vs Young and its turning out to be a great match.....I think Blake should rock the retro Agassi challenge court outfit again!!!!
