Spending chips at Manny's...

Manny returns to Fenway tonight for the first time since leaving the Red Sox in 08. The Dodgers are in town for a 3 game series and I'm predicting a lot of BOOO's from my beloved Bostonians who are probably still angry from last night which we wont talk about!!!!!!!!

Vintage Poster of the Week...

The Red Sox just swept the Yankees so I figured I'd post a vintage Red Sox poster. Mike Greenwell aka "The Gator" played his entire career with the Boston Red Sox (1985-1996). The poster above is called Gator Tough hence the nickname in which he got during his time in Boston, because he wrestled alligators in the off season. Throughout his Red Sox career, Greenwell suffered under the weight of lofty expectations for a Boston left fielder, as since 1940 the position had been occupied by Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski and Jim Rice – all MVP winners, regular triple crown candidates, and members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Although his play rarely reached the level of his predecessors, he provided a solid and reliable presence in the team's lineup for several seasons. greenweel was a 2 time all star and was a leading contender for the AL MVP in 1988, but he lost out to José Canseco, who pulled off the first 40 home run, 40 stolen base season in baseball history.

Beantown...

Tonight is a great night if you're a Boston sports fan like myself or the guy who has that tattoo above on his leg!!! The Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics are all playing tonight with the games all starting within an hour of each other. First up at 7:10 is the Red Sox vs Indians and the Sox are coming off another sweep of the Yankees!! Second at 7:30 is the Bruins game 3 against the Hurricanes and the series is all tied up at 1-1. Last but not least is the Celtics vs Magic at 8:00 and this is a MUST win for the C's because going down 2 games at home isnt a good look for the champs!

Grammy Recap...

I wasnt paying much attention to the Grammy's tonight but I did catch some of the action or lack there of. The best part of the show for me was Neil Diamond singing Sweet Caroline, it instantly reminded me that baseball season is right around the corner and I cant wait to go to some Red Sox games!!! For those that dont know during the eighth inning of every Red Sox game Sweet Caroline blasts through the speakers and everyone in the stadium sings along myself included!! The store goes a little something like this.......Amy Tobey began working for the Red Sox through her job at BCN Productions, a film and video communications company, having interned for the Boston Bruins. Her assignment was to decide what music would be played at the park from 1998 to 2004. She had noticed ''Sweet Caroline" was used at other sporting events, and she decided to send the sweetness over the Fenway speakers. The song was picked up by fans, and the more it caught on, the more superstitious Tobey became about playing it. Tobey would play the song somewhere between the seventh and ninth innings if the team was ahead, depending on whether she felt the team was going to win. She didn't go by any specific margin of runs, but rather who the opponent was, and her gut instincts. ''I actually considered it like a good luck charm," Tobey says. ''Even if they were just one run [ahead], I might still do it. It was just a feel." In 2002, when new management took over at the park, they requested that Tobey play the song during the eighth inning of every game.

1918...

Cap City just listed some new hats on their site and one of them caught my eye. Above is a Red Sox throwback tribute for their 1918 world series championship. The hat is Navy/Red and features the oldschool B, commemorative 1918 patch on the left side and green underbrim. Red Sox spring training starts in less than 2 months (Feb. 25) so get yourself a new hat before the season starts!! The hat retails for $35 and there is currently a full size run available but be quick because they might sell out!
