According to High Times Magazine, the term 420 came from San Rafael high school in 1971. It was used by a group of prankster teenagers who called themselves the Waldo's, would meet after school by a Louis Pastor statue to imbibe in the illicit activity of smoking reefer. It quickly grew over the decades and now has become the code for getting high.
