Yesterday Andre Dawson earned baseball’s highest honor when the slugging outfielder was elected to the Hall of Fame. The eight-time All-Star received 420 of 539 votes, 15 more than the 75 percent necessary to gain election, by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. The 21-year career veteran, nicknamed “The Hawk,” was on the ballot for the ninth time (last year, Dawson fell 44 votes short). One of only three players – including Barry Bonds************** and Willie Mays – with at least 400 home runs and 300 stolen bases, Dawson finished his career with a .279 batting average with 1,591 RBIs and 314 steals.
